Hillary Clinton, and Bernie SandersIt’s only fitting that on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day 2016 I’d be writing this column; or that the night before, I would have watched a Democratic debate on television originating in Charleston, South Carolina. For it was in this city’s railway station, eons ago – just before the Civil Rights Act was enacted, that I was boarding a train to return home to the West Coast after being discharged from military active duty at Charleston Air Force Base.

It is not because the two countries have overlapping interests.
